FARMINGTON -- Lauren Alexander put the finishing touches on a Poplar Bluff softball victory with a two-run homer in the fourth inning, capping off an 11-3 victory for the Lady Mules Monday against Farmington.
Poplar Bluff (7-8) poured it on early with eight runs in the first two innings. In the second, Alexander cleared the loaded bases with a two-out double to bring in three more runs. She finished with six RBIs on three hits for the team lead in both categories. Alexander put together an all-around game, pitching all seven innings and striking out 14 batters. Farmington (4-6) tallied just three hits on the day.
TENNIS
West Plains 5, Poplar Bluff 4
Simone Anders rallied from 7-2 down to win No. 6 singles 8-8 (7-5) against Avery Watson as Poplar Bluff lost at West Plains on Monday.
Annaleese Williams won her No. 5 singles match 8-3 over Kayden Thompson and the pair teamed up to win No. 3 doubles 8-5 over Thompson/Watson to give the Mules three of their four wins against West Plains. Top seed Sara Holland won 8-3 against Sarah Gill for the fourth win.
Mya White lost 8-2 at No. 2 singles to Amelia Anderson. Clarissa Varner lost No. 3 singles 8-5 to Cheyenne Robison. Megan Murphy lost her No. 4 singles match 8-4 to Heidi Schneider.
In doubles, Holland/Varner lost 8-2 to Gill Anderson and White/Murphy lost 8-6 to Robison/Schneider.
BASEBALL
Greenville 8, Bismarck 0
Tye Huff keeps throwing shutouts for Greenville (7-3). The senior tossed his fourth shutout of the season Monday in a win over Bismarck (1-7). In doing so, he struck out 11 and gave up just four hits. Offensively, he compemented Greenville's solid batting with two hits, an RBI and a run scored. Keith Eudaley led the Bears with three runs scored on two hits, and Jason Bratton led the way with four RBIs.
Campbell 12, Holcomb 2, 6 inn
Sky Morrison and Gordon Todd split time on the mound in Campbell's runaway victory over Holcomb (4-9). Todd pitched the latter three innings, not allowing a hit nor a walk and striking out three. Morrison also struck out three and gave up just two hits and two earned runs.
Charles Parker led a potent offensive attack for the Camels (7-3). He went 4-for-5 with an RBI and three runs scored. Morrison and Todd both led Campbell with three RBIs apiece.
Bernie 10, Puxico 0, 6 inn
Everything was clicking for Bernie in its win over Puxico. Josh Vaugh hit a solo shot in the first to give the Mules a quick lead, and Wyatt Barnett sent a three-run homer over the fence in center field in the fifth as en route to the Mules' 10-0 rout of Puxico (2-7). Barnett led Bernie (9-3) with four RBIs.
Jaden McGowen tossed a one-hitter on the mound and struck out three, going all six innings.
East Carter 4, South Iron 0
Colby Miller and Alex Kearbey pitched a shutout on the mound with the help of solid defense from East Carter (9-3). The two gave up six combined hits and struck out four on the way to a clean slate against South Iron (1-6). Dalton Rudd led the Redbirds with three hits.
Clearwater 9, Twin Rivers 0
Trey Rivas threw a shutout against Twin Rivers Monday in a strong effort that kept Clearwater unbeaten. He struck out seven Twin Rivers (4-6) batters, surrendering just three hits and a walk in a complete game. Jesse Holmes anchored the Clearwater (6-0) offense with two hits and two RBIs, while Gage Keller scored a pair of runs on two hits.
FALL SOFTBALL
Doniphan 13, Twin Rivers 0, 6 inn
Eight runs in the sixth inning slammed the door on Twin Rivers (4-6) in a win for Doniphan (11-1). Kaylee and Emilee Davis combined for a shutout. Kaylee gave up three hits and struck out a pair in five innings. Emilee went the final inning and struck out two, not allowing a hit. Jaylin Dutton was driving in runs all day with five RBIs, while Lexi Day led the Donettes with four hits.
East Carter 8 Cape Central 0
Makenna Moore struck out 11 in a complete game shutout for East Carter. Naomi Crowley kept the bats going for the Redbirds with three hits and as many RBIs. Kennedy Thies and Elizabeth Crowley scored a pair of runs for East Carter (12-5) to lead the scoring output. Cape Central (1-8) totaled four hits on the day.
Neelyville 12, East Prairie 2, 5 inn
Payton Reibott and Emily Dollins both turned in strong offensive outings for Neelyville (9-3) in its win over East Prairie (0-7). Both earned two hits on three at-bats and scored two runs. Reinbott pitched four innings and struck out five, allowing just one hit.
Naylor 13, Van Buren 5
Faith Sullivan had three hits, three runs and three RBIs and Naylor jumped out to a 7-0 lead through two innings. Kaylynn Johnson added two hits, three runs and three RBIs while Whitney Mitchell got three hits and two runs for the Eagles.
Brooke Jackson had three hits and scored twice for Van Buren while Lanae Flowes had three RBIs.
VOLLEYBALL
Dexter 2, Woodland 1 (25-11, 22-25, 25-19)
Chloe Thurman led Dexter with nine kills as the Bearcats earned a three-set victory over Woodland (11-6). Alexa Werneck and Maycie Martin weren't far behind with seven and five kills, respectively. Dulcie Pullen and Shelby Bishop distributed the ball well for Dexter (4-3) as the team earned its fourth straight win. Pullen earned 14 assists, while Bishop tallied 11.
