City trash disposal, golf cart permits and new four-way stops were topics at a recent Puxico Board of Aldermen meeting.
Trash disposal sponsored by the city will be Saturday, Sept. 29 and the city will announce additional plans soon.
The ordinance on the golf carts will require residents to obtain golf cart permits which are ordered and will be ready by the end of September.
Bill 18-02, a bill to establish regulations for the operation of golf carts upon city streets, alleys, and highways was approved. This permit costs $15. The application forms and the permits will be available by the end of September and the ordinance will begin being enforced at that time.
The stop sign ordinance makes two of the intersections four-way stops instead of two way. The ones on Bedford are on a main street that goes to the east side of the school campus.
The signs should be going up in the near future and people who travel that road every morning to school need to be aware of the change.
With the approval of this ordinance, the intersection of W. Crumb Avenue and N. High Street and the intersection of E. Brown Avenue and N. Bedford Street will become four-way intersections.
A bill placing a city use tax on the ballot for voter approval was discussed. This use tax involves online purchases and vehicles purchased out of state. At the end of the last legislature session, a bill was approved giving the cities additional time to place the use tax on a ballot. Board members decided to wait until the April municipal election for this ballot issue.
Resolution 18-01, a resolution in support of Missouri Proposition B, a gas tax increase will be on the November election ballot, was discussed. Since the election isn't until November, the board decided to take time to study the resolution and Proposition B, and consider the resolution at a later meeting.
Attending the regular meeting of the Board of Aldermen were Mayor Rick McLean, Peter Coutavas, Charles Fann and GS Kilbreth. The meeting had been postponed due to the Homecoming.
The city clerk stated the city had received a $1,000 donation to help pay for the asphalt work at the post office from Valley Realty Company (Larry Magdovitz) who own the post office property.
David Hawthorne, maintenance supervisor, reported Asa Asphalt has finished the asphalt work by the school, on Bedford Street, Turnbaugh Street and N. E.L. Hawks Street. The seal coating on Richardson Avenue will be done next week. Greg Bell of Smith and Company will review plans for the sewer improvement project with Hawthorne and then will set a meeting date for Board review and approval. Cross Country Utility Maintenance repair the fire hydrant at Brown Avenue and Bedford Street. They will be working on the fire hydrant while it's under pressure which is specialized work. Coutavas requested Hawthorne to ask Smith and Company to do the inspection for the house at 211 N. Turnbaugh.
