Sign up night for Cub Scouts this year will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30 at the Poplar Bluff Junior High, 550 N. Westwood Blvd.
"Cub Scout sign up is for K-5 grade boys and girls are welcome," said Sioux district Executive Mike Dineen. "Get ready for a year of fun. Sign up just in time for shooting, fishing, hiking, campfires, swimming, bouldering and the Halloween camp out."
Dineen said, "We want to call out looking for an energetic, enthusiastic young leader who has a passion for working with youth and who truly enjoys a worthwhile cause, like scouting, that has such an impact in the surrounding community."
Continuing Dineen said, "We are unveiling our Lions program for Kindergartners and also including girls for the first time in our program. Full family scouting will now be able to make use of our top of the line training, seven campgrounds and facilities, and the finest youth leadership development, character building, outdoor skills training they will receive from the world's premier youth program on their journey to excellence. And for some, on journey to the rank of Eagle Scout."
Speaking with local community leaders Dineen has heard, "their diploma and the Eagle Scout award is not something everyone gets; it is something that no one can take away - and a diploma may get them the interview, being an Eagle Scout may get them the job. The community, parents, and youth alike are deeply interested in a positive, constructive alternative to habit forming addictions that plague our surrounding area."
Dineen explains, "Boy Scout sign ups means you are old enough for some real fun! Sign up just in time for our shooting, fishing, ATV course, climbing tower, week-long canoe trips at our high adventure bases and mystery trips and more."
