More than 40 prospective employers will be on site from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at Three Rivers College for a job fair.
Hosted by the Butler County Community Resource Council, the event will take place in the Tinnin Fine Arts Center.
"It will be a good mix of different types of positions," explained CRC Executive Director Rebeca Pacheco. "This gives people the opportunity to shine, to make a memorable impression."
Face-to-face contact like this gives applicants a chance to stand out from other job seekers, she said.
Participants will include Tyson Foods, Pepsi, the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, law enforcement and fire departments, said Pacheco, adding a variety of different career paths and skill levels would be represented.
She advised job seekers bring a resume if they have one and be ready to make a good impression.
"People need to be prepared to speak about their skills, experience and education," she said. "They should pay close attention to their appearance and make sure they're dressed appropriately for the position they're seeking."
The Missouri Job Center will also be set up at the event with computers, so anyone interested can apply online for other positions.
"This event is important for the community because we want to keep our local talent in our community," said Pacheco. "In order to facilitate that, it's important for our local population to know about the job opportunities in this area.
"We have a lot of well educated and skilled people in Poplar Bluff and we want to keep them here in our community working."
