The Charleston Fighting Squirrels baseball team lost a three-run lead and fell, 7-6, to Northern Fairfax County (Va.) in extra innings in pool play of the Senior Babe Ruth World Series on Wednesday in Jamestown, New York.
Despite the Squirrels' first loss at the tournament, they finished first in the American Division with a 3-1 record, earning a bye into the semifinals Friday.
Charleston scored three runs in the top of the seventh to break a tie and jump ahead 6-3. Northern Fairfax County, out of Farifax, Virginia, tied the game in the bottom of the inning and scored a run in the ninth to claim a 7-6 walk-off win.
Christian Parana delivered the game-winning RBI single, capping off a 2-for-4 performance.
Dallan Stotts took the loss for the Squirrels, giving up one run in 2 1/3 innings of relief.
Cole Nichols led Charleston at the plate, going 2-for-5 with a double.
Pool-play action wrapped up Wednesday at the World Series, with the elimination round beginning today. The Squirrels won't play next until Friday's semis, though.
