Completing her fourth term as Ripley County Circuit Clerk, Sharon R. Richmond has a challenger in the Tuesday primary election for Republicans.

Saydie Cook, a Doniphan resident and a deputy clerk in the Butler County Circuit Clerk's office for seven years, also has filed on the Republican ticket.

No Democrats filed for the position, meaning the winner of the primary will earn a four-year term beginning Jan. 1.

Richmond was first elected in 2002 and has won re-election three times. She worked in banking for 15 years before becoming circuit clerk.

Cook has resided in Ripley County most of her life and started working in the legal field in 2003 in the Butler County prosecutor's office and later in the Child Support Enforcement Division.

Richmond, whose name will appear first on the ballot, is a graduate of Doniphan High School and attended Three Rivers College. She is a graduate of the Mid-South School of Banking.

She is married to Ray Richmond, a logger. They have one son, Michael, a bricklayer.

Richmond is a member of Logan Creek General Baptist Church, where she serves as church treasurer. She also is a member of the Ripley County Republican Women and serves as treasurer for Ripley County Relay For Life, a community-wide fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.

Cook was graduated from Doniphan High School in 2001 and earned an associates degree in legal/applied science/information systems technology from Three Rivers College.

She and her husband, Daniel Allen Cook, have been married since 2005. They have three children, Jaylyn Danielle, 13, Logan Tyler, 10, and Maverick Mason, 13 months.

The family attends several church activities and enjoy supporting Dons and Donettes sporting events.
