The man who was killed in the accident Monday evening involving a stolen truck found in rural Butler County has been identified.

"The deceased is identified as 40-year-old Dwayne Young, who had been living in Poplar Bluff," said Butler County Coroner Andy Moore.

Authorities had been searching for the man's identity since a passerby found a 1996 Chevrolet pickup crashed in a ditch on a field road off of County Road 356 near Neelyville.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports Young was eastbound in the truck when it ran off the road, struck a tree and overturned. The exact date and time of the crash are unknown.

The truck had been reported stolen Friday from a residence in the 300 block of County Road 356.

"While talking to the family they provided a description of clothing and personal belongings," Moore said. "The items described by the family are an exact match of what we know about the deceased."

Officials, Moore said, also were able to establish that the last time Young was seen was around the time the truck was reported as stolen.

"The family said they haven't been able to reach him since Friday evening and have been concerned because it wasn't like him to not answer their phone calls or messages," said Moore, who described Young as an acquaintance of the truck's owner.

"When talking to the owner, she stated that Mr. Young had been at her residence in the days leading up to the stolen vehicle report," Moore said.

On behalf of his office and the highway patrol, Moore thanked all who called and provided information regarding this incident.
