DEXTER -- No new information has been released as of Tuesday morning in the ongoing investigation of a Dexter man whose death is believed to be a homicide.

A message left for Dexter Police Chief Trevor Pulley was not returned as of press time.

Jimmy Lynn Casey, 66, was found dead inside his home at about 8 a.m. Thursday when Casey's home-health nurse called 911, Pulley previously said.

Although what caused the death of Casey is not yet being released, "we are for sure this is a homicide," said Stoddard County Coroner Kenny Pope. "We do know that for a fact."

Pulley agreed.

"We are investigating it as a homicide," he said.

According to earlier reports, Casey, a compliant sex offender, was discovered inside his mobile home in the 1100 block of Mulberry Street. He reportedly lived there alone.

"As soon as we were on the scene, detectives contacted headquarters, and I made the decision to activate the major case squad," Pulley explained.

Officers from every law enforcement agency in Stoddard County, as well as the Missouri State Highway Patrol, responded to assist in the investigation.

Officers, Pulley said, have been "actively investigating the case since Thursday."

Further details of that investigation are not being released at this time.

According the highway patrol's sex offender registry, Casey was a compliant sex offender at the time of his death.

A Casenet search revealed Casey pleaded guilty in May 2003 to the Class C felony of second-degree statutory sodomy in Stoddard County.

At that time, he was sentenced to five years in the Missouri Department of Corrections.

Casey reportedly pleaded guilty in connection with an offense involving a 16-year-old male in January 2003 in Bloomfield. Casey was 50 at the time of his offense.

The major case squad, Pulley said, is activated for three days, but "I can request it be extended once the three days are up."

Anyone with information regarding Casey or his death is asked to call Dexter Capt. Hank Trout or Lt. Cory Mills at 573-624-5512.
