The new Dexter Chamber of Commerce executive director hopes to have a hand in growing her adopted community.

Korie Fish took over this month from former director Hillary Starnes.

"I want to continue to be a resource for the businesses and the people of the community," explained Fish, who started at the chamber June 11. "I want the economy to thrive on a local level."

Fish originally moved to Dexter six years ago for work. She previously worked in pharmaceuticals and home respiratory sales.

Dexter officially became home after she met and married native Ryan Fish. The couple welcomed their first child, Elliett Grace, six months ago.

Fish looks forward to being out in the community, meeting new people and helping plan events.

"What Hillary did in the community was really good ... and everything that Dexter has going on now, I think is great," said Fish. "I want to continue to do all of the events and be involved."

The chamber has more than 300 members and hosts a number of events, including a farmers market through the summer, a chamber golf scramble in September and others in the fall and for the holidays.

These events offer a chance for Dexter residents and those from neighboring communities to come together, something Fish said she wants to be a part of.

"There are so many hats I feel like the director of the chamber wears. I feel like Hillary did a really good job balancing those. I'm going to continue to build off what she had and overall making Dexter a welcoming and active community," Fish said.

Fish holds a bachelor's degree in health sciences from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
