FISK -- An elderly Fisk resident died Friday when her home at 511 Lowry Street caught fire, officials from the Butler County Fire Department reported.

According to Butler County Coroner Andy Moore, 82-year-old Mary Clark died as a result of a house fire authorities believe started inside the home.

"The preliminary investigation revealed the fire started in a trash can and spread to a chair," Moore said.

County fire crews were dispatched at 3:20 p.m. Friday. Moore said at 4:50 p.m. Clark was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigation continues into the cause of the fire by the Missouri State Fire Marshal and three Butler County agencies, including the coroner's office, sheriff's and fire departments, Moore said.
