A 29-year-old Puxico, Mo., man was killed in a two-vehicle crash at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 16, on Highway C, two miles west of Advance, Mo., in Bollinger County.
According to the report, Jacob D. Bates was operating an eastbound 2004 Dodge pickup, which was attempting to overtake another vehicle.
Bates reportedly pulled his truck into the westbound lane, where it allegedly struck a 1999 International straight truck nearly head on.
Bates was pronounced dead at the scene by Stoddard County Coroner Kenny Pope at 6:15 a.m.
Berry, 49, of Friedheim, Mo., suffered moderate injuries, while his 22-year-old passenger, Devin S. Austin of Jackson, Mo., suffered minor injuries.
Both were taken by ambulance to Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo., for treatment.
Bates is the 18th fatality in Troop E this year.
Survivors include his wife Chantel LeAnne of Puxico, one son Kingston Edward Bates of the home, his parents Edward Bates and Cynthia Bates of Puxico, His funeral and burial were Saturday, May 19.
