Mr. M. David Mooney, 74, of Poplar Bluff died Wednesday, May 9, 2018. He is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Helen Mooney; his son, John Mooney (Elaine Mooney); his daughter, Melissa Walton (Adam Leventhal); his five grandchildren (William, Cecilia, Charlotte, Dominic and Joshua); and his sisters, Dianne Burrows and D.R. Mr. M. David Mooney, 74, of Poplar Bluff died Wednesday, May 9, 2018.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Helen Mooney; his son, John Mooney (Elaine Mooney); his daughter, Melissa Walton (Adam Leventhal); his five grandchildren (William, Cecilia, Charlotte, Dominic and Joshua); and his sisters, Dianne Burrows and D.R. Mitchell Whitmore. He was preceded in death by his parents Klellie and Camp Mooney; and brothers Ned Mooney and Tommy Mitchell.

David was born April 24, 1944 in Shady Dale, Georgia. He attended Mount Berry School for Boys, was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, and held a master's degree in counseling from Sangamon State University. David possessed a remarkable memory and unique wit. David never met a stranger and always enjoyed trading stories with new people. He was an avid fan of trivia games, followed politics closely, and was a very proud grandfather.

The memorial service will be held Saturday, June 2, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis. Immediately following the military ceremony, we will gather at the Holiday Inn St. Louis-South County Center for a luncheon. We hope family and friends are able to join us in celebrating his life.
