We are told that God sent Moses to the top of Mt. Sinai to receive the Ten Commandments written by the finger of God on two tables of stone (Deuteronomy 5:22). He was there in the presence (invisible) of God for forty days, and when he came down to the people with them he knew not the skin of his face shone while he talked to them, and they were afraid to come near him. Exodus 34:30. He then put a veil over his face until he went in to speak with the Lord. It is notable that Moses was not aware of his face shining with a spiritual glow. It was the natural effect of having been in the presence of and in communion with God. What an experience!

In the early days of the church the Apostles saw a need of someone to "serve tables"; that is, to serve the physical-material needs of certain widows, that they might give their time to preaching the gospel, so they said, "Look ye out among you seven men of good report, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business. They are named in the sixth chapter of Acts with Stephen leading the list. He was so filled with the Holy Spirit and love for others he was not content to "serve tables": he had to get involved in spiritual things. So verse 8 says: "And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people." He preached with such power they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spoke. v. 10. He covered Jewish history from Abraham to his present time. His preaching could be compared to some of the great preaching of the Apostle Paul. But, alas, it was too effective, for he was taken before the council with false accusation against him, and all that sat in the council, looking steadfastly upon him, saw his face as it had been of an angel. See Acts 6:13-15. Another shining face--a face a glow with the Holy Spirit.

In the 12th chapter of Romans we are told to love one another with brotherly affection, and to never flag in zeal, and be aglow with the Spirit and serve the Lord R.V.S. Have we not all seen preacher's faces light up when they get inspired with a message from God's word they are delivering to their people?
