A local nonprofit donated the proceeds of their first "Boots on the Ground" fundraiser to help programs at John J. Pershing VA Medical Center.
Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1056 raised the money for the homeless veterans and suicide prevention programs, according to a press release.
"Our community's consistent generosity in caring for area veterans is truly inspirational. We appreciate our VVA partners and their tireless efforts to improve the lives of homeless and at-risk veterans," said Ginger Potts, acting voluntary services chief.
VVA President Larry Kimbrow presented the check to VA's At-Risk Mental Health Services Supervisor Stacey Scobey.
Other VVA officers include present were Mike Anderson, photographer; Bardis Dismuke, treasurer; Gary Melton, vice-president; and John Cox, secretary.
The officers were joined by other VVA and auxiliary VVA members, as well as VA mental health services staff.
