She was born Sept. 29, 1915 to the late John Gibson and Verna Mounts Gibson in the Chaonia community of Wayne County prior to the dam construction. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Elsie married Chester Huff Nov. 4, 1934 in Poplar Bluff. He preceded her in death July 31, 1983.

In November of 1925, they moved by covered wagon and drove cattle along, to an 80 acre farm (Indian Creek) still owned by the family. Elsie lived there until entering the nursing home in 2013. She and Chester owned and operated Huff Trash for 25 years. They were involved in community service, the trash route being the source. In her spare time Elsie enjoyed cooking and making quilts.
