BLOOMFIELD, Mo. -- The trial of a Puxico father and son that was scheduled to take place on Thursday, April 12, has been delayed until May.Garey G. Faries and his son, Wesley G. Faries are charged with hindering the prosecution of a felony and felony first degree involuntary manslaughter, respectively, surrounding the Feb. 17, 2017 death of Phillips A. Manning, 21, of Sikeston.Manning was reportedly walking along a stretch of Highway 51 near Puxico in the early morning hours of Feb. 17, when he was struck and killed by a 2009 Cadillac XLR. The senior Faries told Highway Patrol Trooper Russell Gibson at the scene that he was behind the wheel and struck Manning. His son, Wesley Faries, eventually admitted to authorities that he, in fact, had been driving the vehicle and had left the scene before police arrived. That admission and further investigation into the case led to both men being charged. The pair posted bonds upon their arrest in February 2017. Delays in the case have continued for more than a year.In November 2017, it was ruled the two cases would be consolidated into one. When the two appeared before Judge Robert N. Mayer on Jan. 3, 2018, a jury trial date was set for Thursday, April 12. That date has now been rescheduled for Wednesday, May 2, 2018, in Mayer's courtroom.Garey Faries, 77, and Wesley Faries, 40, are represented by Stoddard County attorney, Rance Butler. Stoddard County Prosecuting Attorney Russ Oliver filed a motion for the appointment of a special prosecutor in the cases shortly after the charges were filed. New Madrid County Prosecuting Attorney Andrew Lawson was appointed to the case.
