GREENVILLE -- Montana Buffington diddn't give up a run after the first inning as Doniphan beat Greenville 5-2 on Monday at Greenville.

Buffington pitched 6 1/3 innings and allowed six hits, two walks and a hit batter with eight strikeouts. He escaped a bases-loaded jam in the third inning, but was relieved in the seventh after giving up a walk, bringing the tying run to the plate.

With one out, Kyle Lowery loaded the bases with another walk and the Bears got a 1-2-3 double play for the win.

Jake Eddington had a two-run home run in the first inning for Doniphan and was 2 for 3 with two runs. Doniphan (4-3) had three of its four hits in the first inning, scoring three runs, and scored two unearned runs in the fifth on the same sacrifice fly.

Tye Huff pitched 3 2/3 innings for Greenville (4-4) in the loss. He allowed four hits, three walks and a hit batter with nine strikeouts. Doniphan's first six outs were all strikeouts.

Van Buren 12, Winona 4

Down 2-0 after the first inning, the Bulldogs (6-2) scored six runs in both the second and third innings. Ethan Ponder finished 2 for 4 with two runs and two RBIs. He also pitched five innings in teh win and allowed six hits and a walk with five strikeouts.

Wyatt Dougherty and Jacob O'Dell both scored twice while Jacob Brown was 2 for 3 with three RBIs.

Naylor 14, Puxico 1 (5 inn.)

Caleb Urich scored three runs for the Eagles (2-3), who scored 14 runs off eight hits. Seth Jones, Blayne Libla and Matt Rigdon each scored twice.

Bernie 2, Senath-Hornersville 1

Gavin Brown struck out nine and allowed four hits and two walks in a complete-game win for the Mules (3-1).

Weston Comstock and Wyatt Barnett scored Bernie's two runs. Comstock drew three walks on the day while Barnett was 2 for 3 with a walk and an RBI. Benrie finished with four hits.

SOFTBALL

Doniphan 9, Koshkonong 2

Kaylee Davis struck out 10 for the Donettes (7-1) and allowed seven hits and two walks in the complete-game win. She also drove in four runs.

Paige Eddington was 2 for 2 with two walks and scored four runs. Jaylin Dutton and Lexi Day each scored twice. Dutton was 3 for 4 at the plate.
