The Raiders had as many errors as they had hits Sunday.

The offense and defense had trouble at times as Three Rivers was swept by St. Charles 5-1 in the opener and 10-2 in seven innings in the nightcap at Roger Pattillo field.

Three Rivers (8-10, 4-8 Region XVI) had seven hits and seven errors on the day, but despite that, was competitive until late in both games. St. Charles scored 13 of its 15 runs after the fourth inning.

Nine of those runs, including all five in the opener, were unearned.

It was scoreless going into the fifth inning of the opener when the Raiders committed three errors.

After a leadoff walk and a sacrifice bunt, things rolled around to the top of the lineup and that's when the problems started.

The Cougars (6-8, 5-7 Region XVI) took the lead on an error in left field, then went ahead 2-0 on a wild pitch.

After another error and another wild pitch, it was 3-0. The fourth run scored on a third error.

St. Charles stranded two in the inning, including a runner on third. St. Charles batted around, with three of the nine reaching on a hit. There was a walk, a hit batter and a fielder's choice.

Mike Ward was hit by a pitch in the seventh inning and scored the Cougars' final run on the Raiders' fifth and final error of the game.

Garyn Stewart singled and scored for Three Rivers in the sixth inning on William Stallings' double to the gap in left-center field.

The Raiders stranded seven, including four in scoring position. Three Rivers had four hits, one each by Drew Evens, Stewart, Stallings and Dylan Kater.

River Hunt (1-3) started and pitched in the loss. He allowed six hits, two walks and hit batter with four strikeouts over 4 2/3 innings. Beau Burson finished the game for the Raiders and had two strikeouts with two hits, a walk and a hit batter.

Like the opener, the nightcap was tied going into the fifth inning.

It was 2-2 after St. Charles scored a pair of unearned runs in the first inning because of an error, and then Three Rivers tied the game in the third after two walks and an error. With the top of the order coming up in the fifth, Eric Rothermich had a leadoff single for St. Charles and scored the go-ahead run on Josiah Scott's double to left. Scott then scored from second on Carter Spradling's single to center.

Three Rivers had one on with two outs in the bottom of the inning, but hit into a fielder's choice. St. Charles pitcher Jesse Repp, who allowed three hits and two walks with five strikeouts in the complete game win, retired the side in the sixth and seventh innings.

In the top of the seventh, St. Charles loaded the bases with nobody out.

Curren Gentry had a two-run double and Drew Brown had a sacrifice fly to put the Cougars ahead 7-2. With two outs, two runs scored on an error in center field, and Colton Brooks made it 10-2 on a single up the middle.

Needing a run to keep the game going, the Raiders grounded out, struck out and flew out.

Shelby Quiggins (1-2) started and took the loss for Three Rivers. He allowed seven hits, a walk and a hit batter with eight strikeouts. Two runs were earned.

With the loss, St. Charles won the series 3-1. The Raiders continue play today at Dyersburg State in what is the start of 12 straight road games. The Raiders return home on April 7 against Crowder, which will be the first of 12 straight home games.
