Three men and a puppy walk into a store and buy some Scratchers tickets. It may sound like a good intro to a funny joke, but it was no joke when they uncovered a $10,000 prize playing the new "$5,000,000 Bankroll" Scratchers ticket.
The men, who are related - Terry Head of Wappapello, and Trever Head and Zackery Head, both of Poplar Bluff - all decided to put in $100 each to buy a total of $300 worth of Scratchers. The deal was simple: They would split whatever they won three ways.
"We scratched them all in the truck," said Terry Head. "I looked at that ticket about five times making sure the two wasn't a three. It was the very bottom row I scratched and matched 25. I said, 'Well, at least we got our money back on this one.' Then, I scratched the prize off, and it showed $10,000!"
"I cried. My dog is going to be happy," joked Zackery Head, whose black Labrador puppy was with them when they purchased their Scratchers.
None of the three men have any plans for their winnings yet.
"I think we are still in shell shock," said Trever Head.
They purchased their winning ticket at Huck's Food and Fuel, 703 N. Westwood Blvd., in Poplar Bluff on Feb. 17.
"$5,000,000 Bankroll" is a new $20 Scratchers game that debuted on Jan. 29. It has two top prizes of $5 million and more than $57 million in remaining prizes.
