To the Editor,

I just read about the Vietnam disabled vet who froze to death in his own home and had too much pride for anyone to help him.

Those who say they cared so much for him, you all did a mighty poor job of trying to help him. Even though he had no electric, did he not have gas, either? Everyone could have chipped in together and got him a ventless gas heater. Energy assistance could have given him the gas to operate it unless he drew enough not to be qualified.

Maybe he wouldn't accept help or maybe he had some mental problems from Vietnam. It is so sad that this poor man had to freeze to death because he wanted to stay in his own home he'd known since birth.

I don't know all the circumstances, of course, but I am a Christian and I know God is looking down and wondering why someone couldn't have helped His child.

Vietnam messed up many men and nobody recognized them fighting for our freedom. I had a brother-in-law who died at age 60 because of Agent Orange. Many other men died from this as well. Think about it.
