MALDEN, Mo. - Captain Douglass Van Rice was born June 24, 1948 in Kennett, Missouri to the late Arthur Van "Sonny" Rice, Jr. and the late Iris Fern Douglass Rice.

Among the many accomplishments he achieved his proudest was his family, becoming a Captain in the U.S. Air Force, and being a pilot for SWA for 30 years. Doug began his career in aviation at the young age of 15, following in the footsteps of his father. In Doug's leisure time he enjoyed tennis, golfing, fishing and spending time with family.

During Doug's airline career he met his lovely wife of 23 years, Lauren Calla Yarbrough. On October 11 ,1994 in Lake Tahoe, California they were united in marriage. She mourns his death.

Captain Rice passed away peacefully on Friday, February 16, 2018 at his home in Hollister, Missouri.

Survivors Include, his wife, Lauren Rice of Van Buren, MO, Daughter, Kimberly Anne Butler and husband Richard of Frisco, TX, Son, Keith Douglass Rice of China Spring, TX, one Grandson, Will Butler, one Granddaughter, Teagan Rice, one Sister, Susan Rice of Springfield, MO and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held Thursday, February 22 at noon at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Malden. Graveside funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri with Reverend Jim Cooper officiating. Burial will be in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery with Military Rites in Bloomfield, Missouri.
