VAN BUREN -- The Lady Dawgs shook off a slow start and overtook Greenville in the fourth quarter Saturday, advancing to the MSHSAA Class 2 District 3 semifinals with a 57-46 win.
Jalynn Morgan and Hannah Zimmer combined for 16 points in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Bears who took a 33-31 lead into the final frame.
Morgan Shockley scored a game-high 18 points to lead Van Buren. Morgan finished with 14 points while Hannah Zimmer added 13. Jenny Morey chipped in eight points.
McKenzie Miller led Greenville with 15 points while Abby Hillis added eight and Tristin Porter chipped in seven.
The Bears led 11-3 after one quarter and 23-15 at halftime.
Shockley sank a pair of third-quarter 3-pointers while Morey and Morgan each scored four points in the frame as the Lady Dawgs closed the gap.
Van Buren will play second-seeded Thayer at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday after top-seeded Neelyville faces Alton, which beat Naylor 72-43, in the 6 p.m. semifinal.
ALTON 72, NAYLOR 43
The Comets doubled their lead in the second quarter Saturday to end the Eagles season.
Alton led 37-23 at halftime, building on a seven-point lead after one quarter.
Callee Pickrell scored a game-high 26 points to lead the Eagles. Faith Sullivan chipped in eight points.
Twin Rivers 58,
Fredericktown 32
Katelyn South finished with 31 points and is now tied with Tori Cole for second place in all-time scoring at Twin Rivers.
After a quiet start with six points in the first half, South sank four 3-pointers in the third quarter. She made six in all and went 3 for 4 on free throws. She was 6 for 10 from behind the arc and 11 for 18 overall to go with seven rebounds and four steals. Catey Hester added an all-around game with seven points, nine rebounds, eight assist and eight steals.
The Royals (17-10) led 19-16 at the half, but dominated the third quarter and outscored Fredericktown 31-5. They finished with as many steals as turnovers, 19. Callista Francis led Fredericktown (4-19) with 13 points.
Twin Rivers will play Arcadia Valley (16-10) in the semifinals Monday at 7:30 p.m. in Fredericktown.
BOYS BASKETBALL
NEELYVILLE 79, ALTON 67
Curtis Fowler's big third quarter helped the Tigers surge past the Comets and reach the MSHSAA Class 2 District 3 semifinals.
Fowler scored 18 of his game-high 38 points in the third quarter to help turn a six-point halftime deficit into a seven-point lead.
Drew Clary scored 31 points to lead Alton.
The Tigers led 19-16 after one quarter but fell behind 38-32 by halftime.
Marquise West added 19 points for Neelyville while Tyler Harlow chipped in 12 points, 10 in the opening quarter.
Winona 45, Van Buren 39
Winona rallied from down four points going into the fourth quarter to advance in the Class 2 District 3 semifinals.
Connor Jackson and Hayden Towner each had 12 points to lead Van Buren. The Bulldogs scored five points in the fourth quarter and their only field goal was a 3 by Jackson.
