COLUMBIA, Mo. --Dexter sophomore Travis Waldner finished third Saturday at the MSHSAA State Wrestling Championships at Mizzou Arena.

Waldner (47-6) defeated Keegan Scarborough, of Oak Grove, 7-2 in the Class 2 126-pound third-place match.

After a scoreless first period, Waldner earned points on a penalty and an escape in the second. He stretched his lead to 4-0 with a near fall early in the third. Scarborough cut his deficit in half with a reversal, but Waldner wrapped up the victory with an escape and a takedown.

After reaching the semifinals Friday night, he lost 1-0 to Joel Barrientos, of Monett, but bounced back to beat Jonah Gann, of Logan-Rogersville, 7-4 in the fourth round of wrestlebacks Saturday morning. Waldner beat Gann 6-3 in the first round Thursday.

The sophomore defeated Colten Sewell, of Chillicothe, 7-3 in overtime in Friday morning's quarterfinal round.

Waldner's teammates, Jett Featherston and Bryston Pemberton, lost in the quarterfinals.

Jackson Caswell, of Fulton, pinned Pemberton in 1 minute, 34 seconds in the 106-pound class. Pemberton bounced back, pinning Deshaun Smith, of Moberly, in 2:41 in the second round of wrestlebacks.

Ethan Day, of Excelsior Springs, ended Pemberton's tournament run, pinning him in 2:43 in the third round of wrestlebacks.

Pemberton concluded his season with a 46-11 record.

Featherston lost in the 182-pound quarterfinals to Kadye Burton, of Chillicothe, who pinned him in 2:45. He recovered to pin Garrett Schick, of Pleasant Hill, in 2:43 in the second round of wrestlebacks.

Jadon Harrison, of Affton, pinned Featherston in 2:07 in the third round of wrestlebacks Friday night. Featherston finished the season 39-11.

Mason Keena's and Seth Harris' tournament runs ended Friday in the second round of wrestlebacks.

Tucker Macwilliam, of Oak Grove, pinned Harris in 4:52. Harris finished the season with a 39-12 record.

Jared Humbolt, of Ste. Genevieve, pinned Keena in 3:40. Keena finished the season with a 29-24 record.
