MALDEN, Mo. -- Larry Allen Riley, 71, of Malden passed away on Thursday, Feb. 1, 2018. Larry was born Aug. 31, 1946 in Chippewa Falls, Wis. to Kenneth and Joyce (Cathers) Riles. At the age of nine, Larry's mother, brothers and sisters moved to Poplar, Mont. At the age of 16, Larry returned to Wisconsin, until joining the US Navy in May of 1964...

MALDEN, Mo. -- Larry Allen Riley, 71, of Malden passed away on Thursday, Feb. 1, 2018.

Larry was born Aug. 31, 1946 in Chippewa Falls, Wis. to Kenneth and Joyce (Cathers) Riles. At the age of nine, Larry's mother, brothers and sisters moved to Poplar, Mont. At the age of 16, Larry returned to Wisconsin, until joining the US Navy in May of 1964.

Larry made the Navy a career spending 23 years in the Submarine Service aboard Submarines USS Andrew Jackson, Trigger, Puffer, Sturgeon and Batfish. He retired from the Navy in 1987 as a Master Chief Petty Officer.

On Sept. 6, 1988, he married his loving wife, Margaret Ann (Walker) in Millington, Tenn. They resided in Millington and Pensacola, Fla. over the next 13 years while Larry was employed as Associate Dean of Military Training Programs for Central Texas College and The San Diego Community College District. Larry permanently retired in May 2001 at which time they moved to Malden, Mo.

On Aug. 6, 1975 Larry was blessed with the birth of his only child, Thomas Allen Riley who presently resides in Birmingham, Ala, with Wendy and daughter Tabitha Grace. "Tommy" followed in his Dad's footsteps, spending six years in the Submarine Service.

Larry is survived by his wife, Margaret; son, Thomas and family; brothers, Monte (Linda) Riley, Harlan (Jackie) Reidiger, Jeffrey (Julie) Nelsen; sisters, Barbara Wang, Karen (Claude) Adamson; Bonnie Bechtold; Paulette (Clete) Leinen and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; twin brother, Lanny and brothers, Dennis (in infancy) and Randy Riley.

No service is planned at the time.

Landess Funeral Home in Malden is assisting the family.
