POCAHONTAS, Ark. --Taylor Norwood and Raegan McAtee each won individual races, finished second in another and swam a leg on the winning 400-meter freestyle relay as the Poplar Bluff swim team won a nine-team meet Monday.
The Mules had 20 top-5 finishes to win by 132.5 points, dominating the individual medley and butterfly events. Poplar Bluff took the top three spots in the IM and three of the top five places in the butterfly.
"In Arkansas you do not have a limit of entries per event," Mules coach Beth Lewis-Muse said. "We knew if we stacked the IM and fly we had a chance to win the meet."
Norwood won the 200-individual medley in 2 minutes, 30.52 seconds and was second to the wall in the butterfly by 0.39 of a second. McAtee followed Norwood in the IM at 2:44.63 and won the 400 freestyle by 1.69 seconds in 5:03.22.
Paige Bradley placed second in the 100 freestyle and third in the IM behind McAtee.
Norwood, Bradley, McAtee and Mackenzie Garrett won the 400-freestyle relay by 9.76 seconds while Audrey Cisne, Calli Barker, Carly Wiseman and Megan Adams placed fourth.
Norwood, Cisne, McAtee and Bradley were second in the 200-freestyle relay, 3.13 seconds behind Jonesboro (Ark.) while Adams, Wiseman, Garrett and Simone Anders were second in the medley relay.
"The versatility on this team is unbelievable," Lewis-Muse said. "Never have had this before and with a team this size."
Anders placed third in the breaststroke followed 2.62 seconds later by Haven Phelps. Wiseman placed fourth in the butterfly and fifth in the IM while Cisne was fourth in the backstroke and fifth in the butterfly for the Mules.
Jessica Rush placed fifth in the 200 freestyle while Garrett tied for fifth in the 50 at 33.36 seconds and finished the 400 in 6:09 for eighth. Rush was eighth in the butterfly.
Adams placed seventh in the butterfly and ninth in the 200 freestyle Barker finished ninth in the 400 at 6:11 and 13th in the 50 at 34.95 seconds.
Emryn Smith was ninth in the 100 freestyle and 10th in the backstroke. Phelps placed 10th in the butterfly while Emily Barry was 10th in the 100 freestyle. Madison Moore had a pair of 11th-place finishes in the 200 freestyle and the backstroke while Bethany Leighty was 11th in the 400 at 6:19 and Kayla Zachary finished 11th in the breaststroke.
