A deficient Butler County, Mo., bridge will be closed today on County Road 260, near Highway EE.
About 100 vehicles per day use this crossing, according to officials.
Robertson Contractors of Poplar Bluff will have between 60 and 120 days to complete replacement of the structure.
Presiding Commissioner Vince Lampe believes it will take less than 120 days, saying contractors plan to complete the work as quickly as possible.
The nearly $518,000 project is paid for with money from a state bridge replacement program.
County commissioners previously determined this bridge is one of the most problematic on a deficiency list compiled by the Missouri Department of Transportation.
The height of the bridge makes the type of pilings used for support weaker, engineers have said.
A single span bridge that is 26-feet wide will replace the structure, which was built in 1965. It had reconstruction work done in 1985, according to MoDOT.
This bridge has a sufficiency rating of less than 50 percent, MoDOT reports.
