When fighting an addiction, sometimes it may seem impossible to overcome the problem at hand without help and a local church in Puxico has invited those struggling with addiction to their support group for just that reason.
Over the past two months, First Baptist Church has started and is growing a ministry to help those with addiction problems named, "Breaking the Chains Ministries". The ministry is a Bible study to help those struggling how to fight against addiction in a biblical way and break the chains of addiction.
Head of ministry and missions, Pastor Buddy Clinton, explained that this program is not just for those that are battling drug problems.
"This ministry isn't just meant for those with drug or alcohol addictions," Clinton explained. "Anyone with pornography addictions, food addictions, or any kind of addictions can come and talk about what they are battling."
Clinton explained that the church wanted to help the community in some way to reach more people and help those who needed it most.
"We opened this up to the community so they will have a opportunity to find the support needed through these hard times." Clinton said. "We want to help our community and be there for anyone that needs help. Whether it be one person or one hundred people, we will be there to support those people whenever they need it."
When it comes to the future of the ministry, Clinton explained the ministry is just starting out but is looking for suggestions and needs of the community.
"We are just starting out and creating a base for this ministry." Clinton said. "We have heard from others in the community of what they are needing when it comes to addiction problem support and we plan to fulfill the needs as they come."
The Breaking the Chains Ministries team invites anyone with addiction problems to their weekly Bible study Tuesday at 7 p.m. The meeting place is at First Baptist Church in the Fellowship Hall.
