A home baking contest will be offered during Ag Expo on Friday, Jan. 19 and Saturday, Jan. 20 at the Black River Coliseum in downtown Poplar Bluff, Missouri. Bakers may enter their goods any time between

1 p.m. and 8 p.m. Friday. Judging will be on Saturday morning and exhibits must be left in place until 2 p.m.

Bakers may enter several categories including yeast breads, quick breads, cakes, pies, cookies and candies. Listed below are the rules:

Rules and Regulations for Baking Contest:

Entries will be taken anytime between 1 - 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19. Judging will be held Saturday morning and exhibits must be kept in place until 2 p.m.

There will be adult and youth divisions. Ribbons will be awarded to each entry.

No mixes allowed, except in the decorated cake division.

All entries will be tasted when judged except decorated cakes.

Bakers may enter as many categories as they desire.

Cover entries with clear plastic wrap or gallon sized zip lock bag. Place entries on a heavy paper plate. Not responsible for loss or damage to glass or breakable plates.

Yeast and quick breads should be exhibited on a heavy paper plate. An exhibit will consist of ¼ loaf of bread or plate of 4 rolls.

Yeast breads categories include: white loaf; dark loaf; bread produced in a bread machine; white rolls; whole-wheat rolls; cinnamon rolls; coffeecake; other.

Quick breads categories include: cornbread; biscuits; nut bread; muffins; other.

Cakes must be exhibited on heavy paper plates. One-half cakes (except where decorated) will be accepted as an exhibit. Decorated cakes may be made from a mix.

There will be a professional cake decorating division.

Cake divisions include: angel food; applesauce; chiffon; spice; pound; chocolate cake; yellow cake; cupcake; other.

Decorated cake division includes: (Professional and non-professional) wedding cake; birthday cake; any occasion. Pie divisions include: fruit; nut Tarts; other. Enter ¼ pie or two tarts for an exhibit. No cream pies are allowed. Items that require refrigeration will not be accepted.

Cookies and candy should be exhibited on heavy paper plates and placed in zip lock bags. An exhibit will be made of 4 cookies or pieces of candy.

The divisions to enter in the cookie category include: sugar, chocolate chip; brownies; oatmeal; peanut butter; decorated cookies; other.

The candy entries include fudge; peanut brittle; chocolates; mint; other.
