A second person filed Wednesday for Poplar Bluff City Council, but races for the Ward 2 and Ward 4 seats remain uncontested.
Interest in the April 3 election has been slow across Butler County as the Jan. 16 filing deadline for city and school board spots approaches.
No contests have developed in four local elections and some races, including both city of Fisk council seats, have no candidates yet.
Shane Cornman, 44, filed for the Poplar Bluff Ward 4 seat currently held by Philip Crocker.
Cornman is a Poplar Bluff native and minority owner in NBI LLC, a disaster relief and construction company.
Dylan Groves, 23, filed at the end of December for the Ward 2 seat that has been held by Ed DeGaris since 2009. Groves is an employee of Hicks Animal Hospital.
Both DeGaris and Crocker have said they will not file again. Crocker is finishing his first term.
The individuals elected will serve three-year terms.
Also uncontested are two spots on the Three Rivers College Board of Trustees. Incumbents Randy Grassham and Amber Richardson have filed for the six-year terms.
Three-year terms are open for two spots each on the Poplar Bluff, Twin Rivers and Neelyville school boards.
Poplar Bluff Board of Education Vice President Ken Davis and member Heather Tuggle both filed on opening day and remain uncontested.
Twin Rivers incumbents Lee Lewis, board president and member Donna Sue Ashcraft-Fincher also have filed and remain uncontested.
There are three challengers for two seats on the Neelyville school board. Board president John French and incumbent Gene Russom face Ronald Hover Jr.
Two year terms are open for board of alderman positions in Neeylville, Fisk and Qulin.
Incumbents Doug Mosbey of Ward 2 and Fisk Mayor Kim Diamond have not filed for re-election and no candidates are currently seeking those seats, Fisk officials said this morning.
Linda Harris has filed for Ward 1 in Neelyville, but no one has filed for incumbent Dorris McComb's Ward 2 seat.
In the Qulin city election, incumbents Mayor Glen Sedrick, Ward 1 councilman Cheryl Johnson and Ward 2 councilman Mary Martin have each filed for re-election. A message left this morning for Qulin officials was not returned as of press time.
