BROSELEY -- Naylor senior Callie Pickrell scored 36 points Saturday in the Eagles' first-round win over Kelly at the Lady Royals Christmas Classic.
Chaffee coach Andrew Boone took notice.
The Red Devils held Pickrell to 15 points Tuesday night, and fifth-seeded Chaffee beat No. 4 Naylor 48-26 in the quarterfinals at Twin Rivers High School.
"The last two days of practice, the talk was all about Pickrell," Boone said. "We worked on a couple of defenses we play, and we tweaked them ... to double-team her whenever she got the ball. My girls, as well as I can expect, followed the gameplan."
Pickrell scored only seven points through the first three quarters with eight coming in the fourth where the Red Devils had already built a sizable lead.
The Eagles stayed close early, trailing only 12-8 after one quarter. Maddy Cagle made two 3-pointers in the first quarter but didn't score again.
"We knew that (Cagle) can shoot from outside," Boone said. "We knew the girls not doubling (Pickrell) had to know where she was. The first quarter, she had two 3s. After the first quarter, we kind of got into a rhythm, started sweating and got a lot better (on defense)."
A jumper by Pickrell gave Naylor a 2-0 lead, and each of Cagle's 3-pointers put the Eagles in the lead (5-4 and 8-7).
However, Katie Glueck, who tallied a game-high 17 points, scored inside halfway through the quarter, and Brealyn Pobst nailed a 3-pointer, giving Chaffee a 12-8 advantage, a lead it never relinquished.
Gracie Knutson scored inside, Glueck sank a jumper and Mary Beth Knutson scored on a fast break with 6:01 to play in the first half, giving Chaffee an 18-8 lead.
Pickrell's jumper and two free throws by Chaffee's Kylie Wilhite, who finished with 14 points, capped the scoring, and the Red Devils led 20-10 at halftime.
Chaffee went to work inside in the third quarter, pulling down five offensive rebounds, and Glueck scored eight points in the paint, extending Chaffee's lead to 34-18.
The Red Devils went 10 of 16 from the free-throw line in the fourth to secure the victory.
Chaffee (7-2) will meet top-seeded Dexter in the semifinals at 6 p.m. Thursday. Dexter beat Kennett 69-22 Tuesday night.
