The Puxico Elementary was full of smiling faces and joy as the school held it's annual Grandparents Day for Kindergarten through fifth grade Nov. 21.

Festivities pertaining to Grandparents Day and Thanksgiving were planned throughout the morning and afternoon for the students to entertain and show appreciation to their grandparents. Also, many of the Puxico High School students participated in the festivities to make this event possible.

Once the grandparents started to arrive in the morning, the administration, assisted by high school students, made sure the grandparents were helped and led to their grandchildren with ease to start the big day of celebration.

To start off the event, Kindergarten through third grade created programs and plays for the grandparents to watch. The programs involved the students expressing their knowledge of Thanksgiving history and also involved presentations of Thanksgiving like the traditional rain-dance that is performed on the playground - which includes the students dressing like Native Americans and playing homemade instruments.

After the festivities performed by each grade level, the students gathered with their grandparents and headed to the cafeteria to have a Thanksgiving lunch before dismissing the event and allowing the students to finish up their last day of school before Thanksgiving Break.

The high school students were a lot of help on Grandparents Day. Many students came over to the elementary and directed traffic, helped grandparents get from one place to the next, participated in festivities, and helped the cafeteria staff prepare and serve the lunch. Without them and the Puxico Schools administration, this event would not be possible.
