BROSELEY -- Katelyn South scored 14 of her game-high 28 points in the first half as the Twin Rivers girls basketball team pulled away to beat Malden 76-47 in the season opener at home.

The Royals took a 15-13 lead into the second quarter but led by 15 at halftime.

"We ran our offense well but missed too many shots at the bucket," Twin Rivers coach Kelly Westerfield said. "Kids were working hard, I hope just first-game jitters got to them. Things seemed to go a little better around the bucket in the second half."

Malden (0-2) was led by Jada Criglar's 21 points and 18 by Lana Reed.

Brooke Blume added 17 points and led with seven rebounds for the Royals (1-0), who were 1 for 7 from 3-point range in shooting 47.5 percent from the field.

South, who outscored Malden 14-9 in the third quarter, had four steals and four rebounds. Abbey Hester scored all eight of her points in the second quarter off the bench.

Advance 36, Bloomfield 26

Freshman Nyah Wilson sank a game-high 13 points to lead the Advance girls basketball team to its first win of its inaugural season in a 36-26 victory over Bloomfield on Monday at Advance High School.

Fellow freshman Mikayla Mikels added nine points for the Hornets (1-0), which trailed by one point at halftime but staged a fourth-quarter rally to secure the win.

Junior Ashton Bell had seven points to pace the Wildcats (0-2) in the loss.

Puxico 57, East Carter 31

The Indians' big three of Kayt Haynes, Sophia Hancock and Faith Oliver picked up where the left off last season with 54 of the team's 57 points.

Hancock led the team with 21 points while Oliver had 20 and Haynes got 13. Naomi Crowley led East Carter with 16 points.

Thayer 92, Ellington 22

Bailee hunter had 19 of Ellington's 22 points and all eight of its field goals. Thayer had eight players finish with a field goal as it led 55-11 at halftime in the Lady Dawg Classic.

Van Buren 85, Doniphan 59

Jalynn Morgan had 26 points to lead Van Buren in the Lady Dawg Classic. Hannah Zimmer added 19 points while Jenniver Morey had 12 and Lani Black got 10.

Doniphan's Jakelyn Friend had 20 points and Madison Eddington added 14.
