Two Doniphan, Mo., residents died on Thanksgiving Day of injuries they suffered in a one-vehicle crash on Highway K near County Road K-5 in Ripley County.

According to the report, at about 10:30 p.m. Hayden F. Samons, 20, of New Madrid, Mo., was operating a 2012 Chevrolet Impala northbound when it ran off the road, struck a mailbox and overturned several times.

Samons' passengers, Brandon D. Samons, 16, and Derick M. Samons, 20, reportedly were ejected from the car.

Derick Samons was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:50 p.m. by Ripley County Coroner Mike Jackson.

Brandon Samons was flown to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center and then transferred to Regional One Health in Memphis, Tenn. He was pronounced dead by a doctor there at 5:07 a.m. Friday.

Derick Samons and Brandon Samons are the 58th and 59th fatalities in Troop E this year.

Hayden Samons suffered minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Southeast Health in Doniphan for treatment.

He was arrested at 11:50 p.m. on suspicion of two counts of first-degree involuntary manslaughter and driving while intoxicated. He was booked at the Ripley County Sheriff's Department and released.
