Neelyville R-IV Curriculum Director Heather Wells presented the school district's annual performance report scores, composed by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, to the Board of Education during their monthly meeting Thursday.
Scoring 131 points out of a possible 140, the Neelyville School District earned the best APR score in the county once again with a 93.6 percent and earning accreditation.
"We had a little drop last year, but we are back up this year," Wells said. "We are not back where we were, but I fully believe we will get back there."
The district received a 96.4 percent score in 2014, 96.1 percent in 2015 and 92.5 percent last year.
APR points are drawn from attendance and graduation rates, college and career readiness, academic achievement and subgroup achievement.
Wells reported an increase in scores were seen in math, English and college and career readiness while a decrease was seen in science.
The district was also awarded with the maximum 10 points in both attendance and graduation rates.
Wells praised the effort put forth by secretaries for checking with parents when a student is not in school for the high attendance and graduation points as well as rewards throughout grade levels for perfect attendance.
"Everyone on the team is really going above and beyond and it's showing in our scores," Wells said.
Elementary Principal Aaron Burton reported attendance numbers up at Hillview and the elementary.
"We really try to make sure we stay on top of attendance," he said.
He also reported the first Saturday School of the year was recently held and about five students attended to make up school hours.
"The teachers are working hard and that's why we are seeing great APR numbers," Burton said.
Superintendent Brad Hagood reported the Hillview roof repair was completed. He also brought to the attention of the board the need for new curtains on the stage in the high school gym.
Described as a focal point, Hagood said the front and back curtains both had large holes and were held together with clips.
The curtains were last replaced in the mid 1980s.
Hagood said one estimate he received to replace the curtains was a "ballpark figure" of $10,000 to $12,000, which included installation.
The board agreed for Hagood to continue with estimates as well as looking at other options.
The board approved 8 a.m. Dec. 12 through 5 p.m. Jan. 16, 2018, during normal school hours as the filing dates for the April school board election. Filing will not be available while school is closed Dec. 18 through Jan. 2 for Christmas break.
School board members up for re-election in April include John French and Gene Russom.
Approved unanimously by the board was the liability insurance renewal through the Missouri United School Insurance Council (MUSIC).
Hagood said all schools received a 7 percent discount this year of nearly $6,000 for liability insurance while the umbrella insurance slightly increased by almost $200.
"They (MUSIC) provide a great service in my opinion," Hagood said. "If we have a problem, they fix it. I can't say enough good things about them."
During executive session, the board approved the hiring of two custodians, T.J. Matthews and Tracy Turner, as well as approved a student's request for early graduation in December.
The next Neelyville R-IV Board of Education meeting will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, at the Central Office board room.
