The members of the SEMO Barn Hunt Club will be hosting Barn Hunt Sanctioned Trials Dec. 2 -3 at A2M Farms at 8634 State Highway J near Puxico.
Barn Hunt is a fun sport for any breed or mix. Dogs search for one or more rats (safely housed in aerated tubes) on a course made of straw bales and must find the correct number of hidden rats within a set time limit. The handler does not know where the rats are hidden and must rely on the dog to indicate their location. Dogs climb over the bales and through tunnels as they search for their rats. The difficulty increases as the dogs work through the different class levels. Rules can be found at barnhunt.com. Classes offered are Instinct, Novice, Open, Senior, Masters and Crazy 8s.
Open to all breeds and mixed breeds. Entries close Nov. 22 and late entries until Nov. 30. Barn Hunt number are required but registration is easy. Go to barnhunt.com.
