FISK, Mo. -- Verene Hill Barnett, 92, of Poplar Bluff, formerly of Broseley, died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2017 at her residence. Mrs. Barnett was born Oct. 25, 1925 at Broseley on her family's farm, daughter of the late Heber and Mary Butts Hill. She lived at Broseley for 86 years. She was a member of Lone Oak General Baptist Church all her life. Her greatest love was her church, her family and her country. Mrs. Barnett was a homemaker. She had also taught school at the Mayberry School at Broseley. She later worked as a mail carrier and retired from the US Postal service. She also had been a US Census worker and was a clerk for Wagster Auction Service and Settles Auction service. Oct. 18, 1945, she married Vernon Barnett. He preceded her in death, Feb. 28, 2010. She and Vernon raised quarter horses and enjoyed racing horses all around the country.

She is survived by two daughters: Donna Garner and husband, Clem, and Shirley Yarbro and husband, Mark, all of Poplar Bluff; one son, Denny Barnett and wife, Eva, of Broseley; eight grandchildren: Angie Croy and husband,Gary, Bubby Allen, Dana Robards and husband, Hershel, Courtney Tucker and husband, Mike, Mark Allen Yarbro, Barry Barnett and wife, Cortney, Tyler Garner, Ryan Garner and wife, Brittany; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Jerene Hill and wife, Thelma, of Mountain Home, Ark., and one sister, Nadine Morehead of St. Louis.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Vetress Hillis King and one brother, Johnnie Hill.

Visitation will begin at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2017 at White-Sanders Funeral Home in Fisk. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jim Sanders officiating. Burial will be in Brown Chapel Cemetery at Broseley.
