Jaden Deaton and Katie Sliger won on Poplar Bluff's new cross country course Thursday at the Senior High School campus.
Deaton finished the 3.1-mile course in 18 minutes, 2.56 seconds while Sliger ran it in 21:25.67 to win as the Mules won their own meet.
"I thought the new course was great, more asphalt than we would like but we can cut that out next year," Mules coach Beth Lewis-Muse said, adding that David Sievers was a huge help keeping it mowed.
"I don't think you will find another course around that offers so much terrain as our course does. It's not meant to run fast, but it is built to run tough."
Deaton won by just under 30 seconds in front of Ellington's Carson McNail. Wesley Moore of Poplar Bluff was third at 19:14 followed by teammates Victor Olivan (20:19), Brent Worley (20:33), Brendan Yarbro (20:35), Dylan Hefner (20:39), Seth Ingle (21:03), Dylan Cisne (21:10) and Jonathon Gordon (21:51).
