The Poplar Bluff Garden Club recently bestowed on Kenneth Clanahan of Poplar Bluff the "Federated Garden Clubs of Missouri, Inc. Citation of Commendation" for his hard work and dedication for helping restore the historic railroad depot and beautifying the grounds around it.

A Citation of Commendation was issued at the request of the Poplar Bluff Garden Club. These citations may be presented to commercial or industrial firms, organizations, public institutions; or to an individual: 1) in recognition for landscaping and beautification of an area for the enjoyment of the public, or 2) for meritorious service for community betterment. Kenneth Clanahan has met both of these requirements.

The Poplar Bluff Garden Club whose motto is: "Plant, Grow and Beautify," is proud of the beautification project at the Historic Depot. Jane Hansmann, the committee chairperson, has spent hours in collaboration with the depot board and so many other good citizens of Poplar Bluff developing this plan. It is hard work and the club is grateful for every volunteer.

"Kenny" serves as vice president of Poplar Bluff Historic Depot Restoration Corporation and has been very involved with the Poplar Bluff Garden Club by helping build tree wells, dead heading the knock-out roses, and keeping the steep embankment mowed -- not any easy job.

"Kenny helps make Poplar Bluff a better place to live through his community involvement. In addition to his work with the Poplar Bluff Garden Club,, Kenny is a deacon and Sunday school teacher at his church, a volunteer with RSVP, and along with his wife, he ushers at events at the local historic Rodgers Theatre, and has been a Master Gardener in the past" said a club spokesman.
