Poplar Bluff is decked out in pink this month for breast cancer awareness and the annual UCAN fundraiser.
Pink Out day will be held Friday, with a tailgate party starting at 6 p.m. at Mules Stadium on Oak Grove Road.
Money raised from T-shirt sales and other donations collected during October help the United Cancer Assistance Network provide direct assistance to people battling cancer in Butler, Ripley, Stoddard, and Wayne counties.
"One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer," said executive director Melody Melloy. "There isn't anybody who doesn't know somebody with breast cancer."
UCAN is selling three T-shirts with new designs for the 2017 Pink Out.
A pink Mules "Kick Out Cancer" shirt, along with a "Cure" design that comes in both pink and gray, are being sold.
The $15 shirts will be available at Friday's game against Hillsboro High School and are still being sold at Gift Connection.
The free tailgate party will include cheeseburgers and boneless wings provided by Buffalo Wild Wings, face painting and other activities.
Mayor Ed DeGaris will present a proclamation in honor of Pink Out day during the game, Melloy said.
Businesses around town can also be seen showing their pink, including Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center, Black River Medical Center, Briggs and Stratton, NORTECK and Gates Rubber Company.
All of the activities this month help support services for cancer patients, including utility and travel assistance, nutritional support, help with housing expenses and other needs, Melloy said.
UCAN has given away almost 1,000 gas cards in 2017 worth $25 each, she said.
It has also provided approximately 1,800 rides to and from treatment for cancer patients.
A van less than two years old has already traveled 85,000 miles providing transportation to patients, Melloy said.
UCAN will help about 200 cancer patients this year, she said.
