WINONA, Mo. --Doni Everts had three blocks and three kills and Sophia Rowland had three aces and led with six kills as the Poplar Bluff volleyball team won at Winona 25-19, 25-12 Tuesday night.
"Started off slow in the first set and came alive midway through and kept cruising into the second set," Mules coach Amanda Lance said.
Poplar Bluff (16-9) got multiple kills from all six starters and even one from libero Ady Kingree, who had 11 digs. Kiley Bess had five kills, a block, an ace and an assist with eight digs. Hannah Vaughn had 17 assists and four kills while Khelie Spence chipped in three kills. Haley Slaughter had a pair of aces, two kills and six digs against Winona (14-7-2), ranked fifth in Class 1.
Poplar Bluff travels Thursday to Eminence.
SOCCER Saxony Lutheran scored four unanswered goals in the second half to beat Poplar Bluff 6-2 Tuesday night in Jackson.
Nik Rowland scored his sixth goal of the season while Xander Martin tallied his first as the Mules (4-13, 0-5 SEMO) pulled even early in the second half.
Luke Daniel had a hat trick and an assist to lead the Crusaders (10-7, 1-4). Paiten Miller and Cody Siebert added goals for Saxony, which broke a 1-1 halftime tie two minutes into the second half.
Poplar Bluff keeper Justin Moses made 10 saves while Saxony's Brayden Williams had three.
It was the final road trip of the regular season for the Mules, who host state-ranked Farmington on Tuesday. The Knights (14-3) are currently ranked No. 7 in Class 3 of the state coaches poll.
Austin Tinsley scored all three goals in Poplar Bluff's 3-0 win in the junior varsity game.
