Building plans were approved Thursday for renovations that will put a Planet Fitness in a vacant Westwood Boulevard storefront.

The national gym franchise will occupy the nearly 28,000-square-foot former Hastings location.

No date has been set for the opening, city officials said.

Renovations will include the addition of full locker rooms, showers, restrooms, a tanning area and an area for massages, according to the planning department.

The company is still in the process of getting building permits for the site.

The former Hastings space and Orscheln Farm and Home store were previously combined as a Kmart location. Additional work has to be done to fully separate internal systems, including sprinkler systems.

The location will have a maximum occupancy of just over 460 people when it opens.

Building plans also have been approved for the interior of an ULTA Beauty store in the Valley Plaza Shopping Mall, according to the planning department.

Developers are completing exterior improvements before turning the site over to an ULTA Beauty contractor for interior construction.

Contractors for Ross Dress for Less also are putting the finishing touches on the Eight Points location this week. The Oak Grove Road store could open as early as next week.
