began as a dream for individuals wanting to motivate and empower youth in the community. In the first of many events slated, the Dream group hosted a Grill Master Fundraiser Sept. 2 in efforts to promote stroke and heart disease awareness.

"The event went great," co-organizer Shantelle Combs said. "About 50 people showed up to the Grill Master Fundraiser."

Combs along with Amy Partee and Jason Matlock said they discussed hosting a grill master fundraiser for some time and were excited to finally make it happen.

"Our goal is to see more positivity in the community," Combs said. "We want to get everyone involved by spreading positivity and make their dreams become a reality."

The event was held in efforts to not only raise awareness, but to also honor the families of Siletta Shaw and Antonio Coleman, who have been affected by stroke and heart disease.

No entry fees were required for the grill master fundraiser, but donations were accepted to go towards medical bills as well as household expenses for the families while the two are not able to work.

"We were able to donate a large amount of money to the families," Combs said. "We are so thankful to everyone who made this event possible."

In addition to the grill master contest, blood pressure screenings were provided by nurses on hand.

"This event really brought awareness to the community of these hidden diseases," Combs said. "We want to encourage people to see a doctor and get help before anymore damage is done."

The event was full of information for community members on not only heart disease, but also assistance for job placement and options for non-insured community members when visiting doctors.

Trophies were awarded to the top three in the grill master contest. First place and People's Choice was awarded to Jason Matlock; second place was James Dixon; and third place went to Jeremy Hunt.

After the competition, the grilling contestants were allowed to sell their food and donate a portion of their proceeds to the Shaw and Coleman families.

"We were also able to feed a lot of the community," Combs added.

While details are still being finalized, Combs said a website is projected for October as a way to keep up with all the latest events hosted by Dream Construction Organization.

The next event Dream Construction Organization has in the works, Combs said, will be a Fall Festival slated for October.

"This is our way of coming in and helping in the community," Combs said.
