Sunday, Aug. 27, Darlene Lewis, representative and member of the Fisk Presbyterian Church, presented plagues to Susan Williams, director of the Fisk Community Library, honoring Julieanne Patterson and Mary Ellen Vernon's dedication to the library.
In 1991 the Fisk Community Library was organized by Julieanne Patterson with the support of the church and community. Patterson and her mother, Vernon, volunteered many years successfully operating the library. They passed away this year.
The library board wanted to thank those who volunteered and purchased items to help it earn over $4,000 at year's rummage sale. The library has been able to continue operation with the money made from this annual sale, donations, city support and the generous volunteering from librarians, Bea Ward and Shirley Stanford.
Library hours are from 1 - 4 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. In addition to regular print and audio books, there is a huge selection of Christian, mystery and romance best sellers in large print. The children's section includes thousands of fiction and nonfiction books on the accelerated reading list. There is no charge to check out books.
