BLOOMFIELD, Mo. -- Sales tax revenue to Stoddard County in July fell slightly short of the amount collected in July 2016, according to a report from the Missouri Department of Revenue. The county benefited from very strong June sales tax receipts, so 2017 revenue is $31,769.84 above the same period last year.

Stoddard County has a one percent sales tax in place which produces most of the revenue for county government. The county does not levy in property taxes.

Sales tax receipts in July were $8,503.26 less than in July 2016. Total tax receipts were $193,876.71 in July 2017, compared to $202,379.86 in July 2016.

Sales tax receipts for June 2017 were $32,900.23 more that received in June 2016. That increase has resulted in overall county sales tax receipts being above the previous year. The county has received $1,918,707.58 in sales tax revenue from Dec. 1, 2016 to July 31, 2017.

County sales tax receipts were down in March, May and July, while slightly up for the remaining months.

County Clerk Joe Watson said even with the dip in sales tax receipts in July, county revenue is $47,040.94 above the amount built into the budget. The Stoddard County Commission 2017 budget projected revenues of $1,871,666.64 for the eight month period, while actual revenues are $1,918,707.58.
