For the seventh year, the University of Missouri Extension Center along with Aging Matters will host a Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Conference on Tuesday, Sept. 12, at the First United Methodist Church, 500 N. Main St. in Poplar Bluff. This conference is also for others who are raising children who are not their own...

For the seventh year, the University of Missouri Extension Center along with Aging Matters will host a Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Conference on Tuesday, Sept. 12, at the First United Methodist Church, 500 N. Main St. in Poplar Bluff. This conference is also for others who are raising children who are not their own.

Additional sponsors include: AT&T, Parentlink, Butler County Family and Community Education, Butler County 4-H, Poplar Bluff Library, and the Department of Social Services - Children's Division.

Registration is free (Pre-registration preferred) and begins at 8:15 a.m. The conference will start with a welcome at 8:45 a.m. There are several informational sessions scheduled for the day:

Legal issues for Grandparents, by Jennifer Williams, attorney at law - Spain, Miller, Galloway & Lee Law Firm;

AT&T -The Evolution of Technology by Jomo Castro, regional director - External Affairs/State Legislative & Regulatory Affairs;

A Quick Tour of the Tech Services and Resources at your Library by Erin Rigby, Children's Librarian, Poplar Bluff Municipal Library;

Dealing with the Terrible Two's Through Teens, Cynthia Moses, LCSW, Living Better Behavioral Health;

Safety and the Internet / Social Media, Doug Dickerson, Director of Information Technology for Aging Matters Caregiver;

Care for Thyself by Karen Traylor-Adolph, Parentlink Family Support;

and Dish Gardening by Sarah Denkler, Horticulture Specialist, University of Missouri Extension.

Lunch will be provided by AT&T and the Missouri Association for Family and Community Education of Butler County.

Educational booths will be on display during the conference. Door prizes will be given by booth holders. The conference is free, but pre-registration is required to assure adequate seating, materials, babysitting, and lunch. Free babysitting will be available on-site.
