Bids ranging from $420,000 to nearly $1.2 million have been received for repairs to State Highway HH, which was damaged during record high water at Clearwater Dam.

The bids were opened Friday by the Missouri Department of Transportation.

An award is expected Sept. 6, at the next meeting of the state highway commission, said area engineer David Wyman.

Repairs to the road are expected to be complete by the end of October, Wyman said.

Use of the dam's overflow spillway tore away about one-fourth of a mile of roadway, with a gully as much as 30 feet deep in some areas.

It was the first time in Clearwater's history that this channel, located west of the dam structure, has been used.

MoDOT will fix the damage with a raised road bed, with culverts below.

The following bids were received (figures approximate): H.R. Quadri Contractors, $421,200; Pace Construction Company, $566,900; Robertson Contractors, $616,500; Young's General Contracting, $669,700; Joe's Bridge and Grading, $777,600; R.L. Persons Construction, $847,500; Clark and Sons Excavating, $849,000; Above and Below Contracting, $1.18 million.

The repairs will be similar to those completed on Highway T at Wappapello Dam, following use the auxiliary spillway there.

Both roads are subject to closure when the secondary spillways are activated, MoDOT has said.
