FARMINGTON, Mo. -- No evidence of foul play was found during a Friday autopsy of a Poplar Bluff, Mo., man authorities say drowned in Black River.
The body of Thomas Mayabb, 41, was recovered from the river Wednesday afternoon at a location more than 6 miles from where he was last seen.
Mayabb, according to earlier reports, had been reported missing Monday afternoon by his mother, who had found her son's shoes, a sock and belt on the river levee on County Road 611, north of the boat ramp. Other clothing items later were found in the area.
Family members had last spoken with Mayabb on Friday night, and the last time he was seen was when he was captured on a game camera mounted in the wood line of a field near the river access on Sunday night.
During the autopsy at a Farmington hospital, Dr. Russell Deidiker found no signs of trauma on Mayabb's body, according to Butler County Coroner Andy Moore.
"We believe, all indications are this is a drowning," Moore said.
The final autopsy report is pending, which will include toxicology results, Moore said. Those results typically take six to eight weeks to be returned.
Butler County deputies and troopers with the Missouri State Highway Patrol conducted multiple ground and water searches before finding Mayabb on Wednesday.
Authorites say Mayabb was found floating and caught in a root wad about 40 feet from the east bank of Black River and about six and one-half miles south of the Dan River boat access. His shoes had been found north of the access.
Authorities believe Mayabb entered Black River "at some point; we're not sure where exactly," Butler County Sgt. James Lewis earlier said.
The river banks, he said, are "really steep; once he was in the water, it would have been really hard to get out."
