Wheatley School and Kathern Harris go hand in hand and this summer was no exception.
Over the past three weeks, 21 students spent their days at the Super Kids Summer Camp at Wheatley School, learning life lessons such as organization, reading skills, math and emphasizing on character education.
"Each day the students had a period to work on character education," Harris said. "These students are doing something meaningful this summer."
Areas emphasized during the camp include honesty, kindness, responsibility and respect.
At the conclusion of the camp, students in kindergarten through fourth grades presented skits to illustrate a particular character trait.
The students were then presented with awards for special achievements from their time at Super Kids Camp.
"I am very proud of the work the students have done this summer," said Poplar Bluff Superintendent Scott Dill at the conclusion of the awards presentation.
Junior high and high school students volunteered their time to teach the younger children at the camp.
Third year volunteer Carlton McDonald and second year volunteer Khelie Spence both agreed they enjoyed helping the younger students prepare for the upcoming school year.
"I always have a fun time," Spence said.
McDonald added he enjoyed getting to know the children at the camp.
According to Harris, a great representation of the area school's students attended the camp, including students from Oak Grove, O'Neal and Lake Grove.
"We believe in the success of all children," Harris said.
