"He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase," says the writer of Proverbs. Proverbs 5:10.

A sheep wants only to be led out to green pastures and when filled to lie down contentedly to rest and digest his food. But a man who sets his heart's affections on silver--material riches--can never accumulate great wealth, only to find life so empty and vain they commit suicide. Why? Because man has deeper needs of the spirit that wealth, pomp and power can never satisfy. Man's spirit cries out for the touch of God's Spirit, and no man shall know the meaning of true contentment until his spiritual needs are satisfied. That is why the writer of the proverb said the person whose chief concern in life is to accumulate an abundance shall never be satisfied. Only as a person develops the proper relationship between himself and God and between God and his possessions, be they great or small, shall be satisfied with life. Many resort to drugs and licentious living in a vain effort to escape the realities of an empty life. Are you driving yourself toward a heart attack or ulcers to obtain that which can never satisfy? Listen to Jesus, "Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you." Matthew 6:33. "O that men would praise the Lord for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men! For He satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness." Psalms 107: 8-9. Love for silver cannot satisfy, but love for God can and does. Which do you love most?
