After falling behind in the first inning without allowing a hit, NALC's Whittany Williams quickly tied it following a leadoff triple Monday.

Three more runs crossed the plate in the same fashion as Williams, who stole home after a pitch to the backstop, before a 10-run third inning sent NALC to a 15-3 win over Windy City Hotdog in the Park Department Senior League Tournament championship game at McLane Park.

Williams didn't allow a hit in four innings, striking out eight and walking eight.

"Good pitching," NALC coach Rick Willard said of the key to a 10-0 season.

"Whether we put in the hard stuff with Whittany or the slow but solid strikes with Bre (Thresher)."

The defense did its part as well.

Thresher fielded a grounder at second base for the first out of the second while Williams got the final out of the game on a comebacker. NALC ended the first inning with a successful rundown on a pickoff.

Williams then hit a liner to left field and scored to tie it.

"Whitney's triple to start off the thing, I think, kind of rattled them," Coach Willard said. "So it was real important."

Thresher followed with a walk and Kennedy Ray drew another with one out. They both later scored on the same pitch to the backstop after an throwing error to give NALC the lead. Makayla Belcher, who walked, nearly scored from first on the play but was tagged out.

Windy City later escaped a bases-loaded jam with a strikeout then did the same to end the second inning with the bases full.

Windy City pitchers Serena Davis and Kylly Jay combined to fan eight batters, four each.

Jay scored the first run of the game with a walk and a pair of stolen bases leading to a throwing error. Isabel Esquivel and Paige Earls walked and later scored on pitches to the backstop in the fourth inning.

In the second and third innings, Windy City left a runner stranded on third base with a chance to cut into the deficit.

NALC drew 17 walks, including five straight to start the fourth to extend a 5-1 lead.

Caleigh Chilton and Aaliyah Coursey also had hits for NALC while Chilton, Kaci Rose and Kearra Mikel each drew a bases-loaded walk. Williams, Thresher and Coursey each scored twice. Chilton, Ray, Belcher, Rose, Simone Anders, Mikel, Rylee Gfell and Kylie Meirstin each scored once.

Payton Daniels grounded out twice for Windy City, which finished second in league play. Earls and Serena Davis each walked twice while Jenny Casteel and Avory Gibbs walked in their only at-bats.
